Requirements for Adoption
1. Submit an Application
2. Obtain a reference from your veterinarian
3. Work with a group member to determine if a rescued dog is right for you
4. Arrange for a home visit from a B.A.R. volunteer
5. Read and Sign a Guardian Contract
Why?
If our adoption procedure seems lengthy and intrusive please understand that we have many years of experience in trying to
place dogs in homes where they and their people will be happy for life. This experience has taught us that questions must
be asked and answered by both the prospective new guardians and the foster guardians.
A quick, careless placement means that everyone will be disappointed and the dog will be returned, confused and heartbroken
again. Each new home means the dog must recover from being rejected, adjust to new habits and learn to trust again - a process
that takes longer and longer. The application is one method of matching a dog's personality - and problems - with the people
who can appreciate both for a permanent match.
Is a Bichon the right breed for you?
Bichons have been bred to be companion dogs; this means they NEED to be with their people as much as possible. Leaving Bichons
alone for long periods of time is cruel and makes them neurotic. Crating them all day is like leaving them in a no-kill shelter.
If your life style requires that your pet be alone for long hours, please look toward a different, less dependent breed.
Please note: All adopters must live within reasonable driving distance of the foster home. B.A.R. does not ship or fly
pets long distances.

The Adoption Application
Adopters must submit a completed guardian application by filling in the online form on the next webpage, or by emailing us
for a copy of the application in either Microsoft Word or Adobe PFD format and mailing it to the address at the bottom of
this webpage.
A veterinarian reference is needed. It reassures us that the adopter is responsible and able to care for one of our dogs.
You may email us for a Word copy of the reference form and ask your vet to fill it out and send it to us, or you may give
your vet permission to answer our questions by phone. We WILL call as soon as we can.
The Home Visit
The visit to a prospective adopter's home gives us a chance to meet the new family, plus we are able to make sure your home
will be a safe and a loving home for one of our dogs.
The Guardian Contract
When you receive your dog we require you sign the contract and pay the adoption fee in full. We only accept check or Money
Order so please do not give the volunteer cash. We will then give you the items and information that goes with the dog you
are adopting.
The dog is now yours and you will have two weeks as a trial period from the time you receive your dog. If, within that
two week time frame you find the dog is not working out in your household, please contact the volunteer and make arrangements
to return the dog. If this is done within the time period you will receive a full refund. If you decide to return the dog
after the two week trial, per the contract you signed, you must return it to Bichon Angels Rescue. At no time may you give
the dog away or take the dog to the shelter.
Our adoption fees vary with the age of the dog and the expenses we have incurred resolving the dog's health problems.
We look forward to finding you a forever friend.
